Senses

McLuhan's "The Medium is the Massage" takes a look into how the medium impacts the meaning.

"All media are extensions of some human faculty - psychic or physical." This sentence began to describe what media is, it is created by us.
Every piece of media was created to recreate a feeling, thought, or emotion.

McLuhan describes the evolution of media, starting with the independence of both sight and sound. Sight and sound, were completely separate entities until recently in history. For centuries sounds was the main medium of thought, emotion, and feeling. To believe something, it had to have been heard. Evolving into print, symbols that independently mean very little, however the compilation of this evolved into a new media outlet.

"Believe only half of what they see, and nothing what they hear." or "Seeing is believing." Both demonstrate that the primary medium had evolved from audio or visual. Stepping forward until recent history, when the the audio or picture are out of sync during movie or show, what is often brought up? Why is the sound off(out of sync)? The primary source of information is visual.
This is why wise men/women are often call "visionaries."

A good point is brought up about how new media has to do old work. It has to adapt, be able to control the current as well as the past. "Print technology created the public. Electric technology created the mass." The connection of people through new technologies has allowed for blogs to be possible. For information to be more instantaneous. Information is no longer held in one medium, it is held in multiple; creating the need for copyrights, the approval of information comes quicker, but at a steeper price.
